Water Washout Clean-Out System

ABOUT THE System

SCP first developed a water washout clean-out system in 2009 on long line applications to clean-out the concrete material delivery line. After the concrete pump hopper is cleaned out, water from a recycled water holding tank is pumped into the concrete pump hopper. The concrete pump acts as high-pressure water pump and pushes the waste concrete from the concrete delivery pipeline into the pour. Once there is 0.2m3 of concrete remaining in the concrete delivery pipeline, the separate placing boom or discharge line is manoeuvred over to concrete waste bins. The last 0.2m3 of concrete waste is pumped into the waste bins followed by a small amount of water. Water is blown back through the system to the pumping area where it is diverted into a release valve that is routed into sediment separation tanks. Systems can be fitted with a PH dosing machine that can maintain safe PH levels. The water is re-used for the next concrete pump and concrete material delivery line clean-out.

  • Safe for workers on site
  • Environmentally safe
  • Reduces water consumption due to recycling of water
  • Concrete waste can be precisely calculated and reduced significantly resulting in cost savings
  • Has more capacity to clean-out old concrete in the pipeline than compressed air
  • Reduces near misses, property damage and lost time injuries
  • Has never caused a fatality of injury

Because water is not compressible, it does not have the explosive capabilities that air has. Risk to worker safety and the public is greatly reduced by using a water-washout cleanout system.

SCP can reduce the waste concrete in the concrete material delivery line down to as little as 0.2m3 of waste concrete per pour. This reduces concrete waste which has less of an impact on the environment but also results in large commercial savings in concrete costs for the customer.

  • SCP has implemented and put the system to everyday use on high profile major projects – since 2009.
  • SCP has had zero clean-out near misses or incidents with the water washout clean-out system
  • SCP has saved Australian Builders hundreds of thousands of dollars in concrete costs due to reducing waste concrete
  • SCP has reduced the impact on the environment by minimising waste concrete.
  • SCP has reduced the on site time for concrete delivery trucks at the end of concrete pours
  • SCP has successfully used the water washout system on some of Australia’s largest high rise projects
  • SCP has successfully cleaned out 1,020 lineal meters of horizontal material delivery pipeline floating over the water

Since 2009, SCP are the industry leaders in water recycling, minimising waste concrete and reducing safety risks for our workers.

Traditionally, long concrete delivery line systems and separate placing booms have been cleaned out by using compressed air to blow waste concrete back into a concrete delivery truck or a bin. For every 80 lineal metres of 125mm diameter concrete delivery pipeline, there is 1m3 of concrete waste. This means that typical separate placing boom projects would have on average 2m3 to 4m3 of waste concrete left in the delivery line after every pour. Additionally, traditional compressed air blow-back methods have a history of near-misses and incidents with workers and property damage due to the explosive nature of compressed air. SCP have been the market leaders in developing procedures to solve these issues considering worker and public safety and SCP’s impact on the environment by preventing pollution and controlling waste management.
